For quite some time. I struggled with an inner feeling that there must be something out there for me where I could express
my artistic side, have fun, and at the same time earn an income. Although I am a number of years away from a legitimate retirement
age, I have left the corporate world and made a decision to step out on faith to start a new chapter in my life. Engraving is now
a part of that new life and I am truly loving it!!
Having a passion for lettering and calligraphy as a hobby led me to search for something I would really enjoy doing - not just as a hobby, but as a career. While perusing the Internet and searching for content related to calligraphy, by happenstance, I found an engraving class offered by Ken Brown in McKinney, Texas. Ken is an internationally renowned calligrapher, author and engraver, who developed a method of engraving using an ultra-high speed dental drill. The drill rotates at over 300,000 rpm which allows me to engrave with the sort of precision necessary to impart the look and feel of Copperplate calligraphy onto glass, metal and wooden objects. This was exactly what I was looking for!! Following many weeks of careful thought, consideration and prayer (and encouragement from my husband), I finally gave in to my fears and decided to just go for it. I called the number listed on Ken's website, spoke with him in person, prayed about it even more……the next thing I know, I've paid my fees, reserved my seat in his class, made my hotel reservation, and booked a flight to Texas. I was committed to making this happen!
After completing the basic training class in Texas, I chose to further my training by undergoing a meticulous certification process within Ken's program to become a certified engraver. What an experience!!! I have no regrets and I am enjoying every minute of my new venture in life!
I look forward to participating in engraving events for large department stores, wineries, weddings, boutiques, as well as personalizing specialty items for individual clients for all occasions.
